Sviyat Vechir

Our family follows the old calendar and celebrates Christmas on January 7th. Christmas Eve, or Sviyat Vechir, is a very traditional holiday, where every detail is symbolic. This year, we were blessed to have Mykola's parents, Lessya and my mom and Jack with us on this night. Here are some of the pictures from our celebration....After seeing the first star of the night, Baba Luba helped Kolya light the candle.
As head of the house, Mykola welcomed all the guests and wished them a healthy and prosperous New Year.
Vushky ("sliders" that are stuffed with a yummy mushroom filling) and borscht.
Kolya discovering that St. Nicholas had left everyone some presents under the tree outside. Kolya heard the sleigh bells and ran to the door but wasn't quick enough to see the man himself!
The kids opening their new gifts.
Beautiful Olivia dressed in her vyshyvka, a traditional Ukrainian blouse.
